ACM aluminium composite panel
ACM (aluminium composite material), also called ACP or aluminium composite panel, is two thin aluminium skins bonded to a plastic core. It is flat, rigid and light, and it is the standard substrate for permanent signs.
Plastics Hub NZ supplies blank ACM sheet for signs, display panels and interior linings. Printing and installation are done by you or your trades.

Request a quoteWhat is ACM / ACP?
An ACM panel has a painted or brushed aluminium face on each side and a core between them. The core is usually polyethylene, and fire-retardant cores are also made; if fire performance matters, confirm the core and grade with us. The panel is much lighter than solid aluminium of the same stiffness.
Whether a panel is suitable for a building facade depends on its core and certification, and on the building's own requirements. For any cladding or facade use, confirm the grade with us and with your designer before ordering.

Key properties
Flat and rigid
The sandwich construction keeps large panels flat and stiff without much weight.
Weather resistant
Painted aluminium faces stand up well outdoors, which is why ACM is used for long-life signs.
Print and vinyl friendly
The smooth painted face takes direct print and vinyl well.
Easy to cut
ACM cuts with saws and routers, and can be routed on the back and folded into trays.
Core matters
Standard cores are polyethylene. If fire performance matters for your job, confirm the core and grade with us.

Forms, thicknesses and sheet sizes
What ACM / ACP commonly comes in. What we can source for you is confirmed on your quote.
- Form
- Flat composite panel.
- Common thicknesses
- 3mm is the most common sign panel, with 2mm, 4mm and thicker panels also made.
- Common sheet sizes
- Commonly 2440 x 1220mm, with larger formats such as 3050 x 1500mm in some finishes.
- Common finishes
- Gloss and matt white, black, colours and brushed or mirror metal-look faces.
How it compares
ACM is the rigid, long-life sign board. PVC foam board is cheaper and lighter for indoor signs and displays, and corflute is the low-cost choice for temporary signs.

ACM / ACP questions
- Is ACM the same as ACP?
- Yes. ACM (aluminium composite material) and ACP (aluminium composite panel) are two names for the same product.
- Can ACM be used for building cladding?
- That depends on the panel's core and certification and on the building's own requirements. For any cladding or facade use, confirm the grade with us and with your designer before ordering.
- Do you print or install ACM signs?
- No. We supply blank ACM sheet; your sign maker prints and installs it.
- Can you cut ACM to size?
- Cutting is available on certain materials at certain depots. Request a quote with your sizes and we'll confirm.
