Rigid PVC sheet
Rigid PVC is a solid, stiff sheet with good chemical resistance. Grey PVC is a staple for chemical tanks, ducting and fume extraction, and white PVC for hygienic wall linings and panels.
Plastics Hub NZ supplies solid rigid PVC sheet. For light, foamed PVC see PVC foam board.

Request a quoteWhat is Rigid PVC?
Rigid PVC is unplasticised polyvinyl chloride (often called PVC-U or uPVC), the same family as plumbing pipe. It is solid all the way through, unlike foam board.
It is naturally self-extinguishing, but a stated fire rating depends on the grade and its certification, so confirm the grade with us if your job needs one.

Key properties
Chemical resistant
PVC resists many acids, alkalis and salts, which suits plating, water treatment and chemical handling.
Stiff and solid
Rigid PVC is stiffer than polyethylene and polypropylene at the same thickness.
Easy to join
PVC can be solvent cemented and plastic welded, so tanks and ducts are straightforward to assemble.
Cuts and forms well
It cuts with ordinary saws and can be heat bent.
Temperature limits
PVC softens at a lower temperature than polypropylene, so it is not used for hot duty.
Typical uses
- Chemical tanks and bunds
Grey PVC for plating and water treatment.
- Ducting and fume extraction
Chemical-resistant ductwork.
- Shower and wet-wall linings
White PVC for hygienic linings.
- Electrical and control panels
Insulating backing panels.
- Splash guards and covers
Wet and chemical areas.
Forms, thicknesses and sheet sizes
What Rigid PVC commonly comes in. What we can source for you is confirmed on your quote.
- Form
- Solid flat sheet.
- Common thicknesses
- From about 1mm to 25mm, with 3mm to 10mm among the most used.
- Common sheet sizes
- Sheets are commonly 2440 x 1220mm, with larger formats in some thicknesses.
- Common colours
- Grey and white are the most common, with clear and black also made.
How it compares
Rigid PVC is stiffer and easier to glue than polypropylene; polypropylene handles more heat. PVC foam board is the light, foamed version for signs and displays.

Rigid PVC questions
- What is the difference between rigid PVC and PVC foam board?
- Rigid PVC is solid all the way through, heavier and stronger, and suits tanks, ducts and linings. PVC foam board has a foamed core, is much lighter and suits signs and displays.
- Can rigid PVC be glued?
- Yes. PVC can be solvent cemented, and it can also be plastic welded.
- Is PVC sheet fire rated?
- PVC is naturally self-extinguishing, but a stated fire rating depends on the grade and its certification. Confirm the grade with us if your job needs one.
- Can you cut PVC sheet to size?
- Cutting is available on certain materials at certain depots. Request a quote with your sizes and we'll confirm.
