Plastic rods
Plastic rod is solid round bar for turned parts: bushes, rollers, spacers, seals and gears. Engineering plastic rod is lighter than metal, does not corrode and often runs without lubrication.
Plastics Hub NZ supplies acetal, nylon, PTFE, HDPE, UHMWPE and polypropylene rod. Choose a material below for its common diameters, lengths and uses, or tell us the part and we'll suggest one.

Which rod for which job
A starting point, not a datasheet. Tell us the load, speed and environment and we'll confirm the grade.
| Job | What to look at | More |
|---|---|---|
| Precise bushes, gears and valve parts that must hold their size | Acetal rod | See the product page |
| Tough bushes, rollers and sheaves under shock load | Nylon rod | See the product page |
| Seals, valve seats and parts in harsh chemicals or heat | PTFE rod | See the product page |
| Low-cost spacers, rollers and parts that sit in water | HDPE rod | See the product page |
| Guides, rollers and star wheels that slide against product all day | UHMWPE rod | See the product page |
| Fittings and spacers in acid, alkali or wash-down duty | Polypropylene rod | See the product page |

Diameter and length
Rod is sold by diameter and length. Tell us the finished size of the part and the length you need, and allow for what your turning will remove.
Machining is yours, supply is ours
We supply the rod; turning, drilling and fitting are done by you or your engineering shop. Where food contact, a temperature rating or another stated performance matters, confirm the grade with us.
Not in our rod range
We do not supply acrylic rod or tube. For a clear part, ask us about sheet instead.

How to order
- Send us an enquiry through the quote form or email trade@plasticshub.co.nz.
- Tell us the material, the rod diameter, the length and quantity, and the town or city it is going to.
- We'll come back with a quote, including delivery.
Need it cut? Cutting is available on certain materials at certain depots. Request a quote with your sizes and we'll confirm.
Plastic rods questions
- Which plastic rod is best for bushes?
- Acetal and nylon are the usual choices. Acetal holds its size better, especially when wet; nylon is tougher under shock loads. Tell us the load, speed and environment and we'll suggest one.
- Do you supply acrylic rod or tube?
- No. Acrylic rod and tube are not part of our range. We supply acetal, nylon, PTFE, HDPE, UHMWPE and polypropylene rod, and acrylic as flat sheet.
- Do you machine parts from rod?
- No. Plastics Hub NZ supplies plastic rod; turning and machining are done by you or your engineering shop.
- Can you cut rod to length?
- Cutting is available on certain materials at certain depots. Request a quote with your sizes and we'll confirm.
Tell us what you need. We'll source it.
