UHMWPE sheet

UHMWPE sheet is the wear plastic in flat form: it outlasts many metals where material slides, scrapes or flows across a surface, and its slippery face stops product sticking. It lines chutes, hoppers, bins and truck beds.

Plastics Hub NZ supplies UHMWPE sheet in natural, black and green. Tell us the thickness, sheet size, colour and quantity, plus what it will be wearing against, and we'll come back with a quote.

What is UHMWPE sheet?

UHMWPE is polyethylene with extremely long molecular chains. That gives it outstanding abrasion and impact resistance and a low-friction surface, while keeping polyethylene's resistance to water and chemicals.

It is sometimes called UHMW or PE 1000. Grades vary, including reprocessed and coloured grades for less demanding jobs.

Key properties

  • Outstanding wear resistance

UHMWPE resists abrasion and sliding wear far better than HDPE and most other plastics.

  • Low friction, non-stick

Its slippery surface helps bulk materials flow and stops sticky product building up.

  • Very impact resistant

It absorbs knocks well, including at low temperatures.

  • Water and chemical resistant

Like HDPE it does not absorb water or rot, and resists many chemicals.

  • Not for heat

UHMWPE softens at a relatively low temperature, so it is not used for hot duty.

Typical uses

  • Chute, hopper and bin liners

Helps grain, wood chip and bulk materials flow.

  • Truck and trailer bed liners

Reduces wear and hang-up when unloading.

  • Dock and wharf fender facing

Tough, low-friction facing for berthing areas.

Forms, thicknesses and sheet sizes

What UHMWPE sheet commonly comes in. What we can source for you is confirmed on your quote.

Forms
Flat sheet and solid round rod.
Common thicknesses
Sheet from about 6mm to 50mm and beyond, with 10mm to 25mm among the most used for liners.
Common sheet sizes
Sheets are commonly 3000 x 1250mm or similar large formats, depending on grade and thickness.
Common colours
Natural white, black and green are the usual colours.

How it compares

UHMWPE is the step up from HDPE when wear is the problem. For small, precise parts that need to hold their shape, acetal or nylon are stiffer and more stable.

How to order

  1. Send us an enquiry through the quote form or email trade@plasticshub.co.nz.
  2. Tell us the thickness, grade or colour, sheet size and quantity, plus what the sheet will be wearing against, and the town or city it is going to.
  3. We'll come back with a quote, including delivery.

Need it cut? Cutting is available on certain materials at certain depots. Request a quote with your sizes and we'll confirm.

UHMWPE sheet questions

What is the difference between UHMWPE and HDPE?
Both are polyethylene. UHMWPE has much longer molecules, which make it far more wear and impact resistant and more slippery. HDPE is cheaper and fine for light-duty jobs.
Is UHMWPE food safe?
Food-contact grades of UHMWPE are made and are common in food processing. Not every grade is, so confirm the grade with us if your job needs one.
Can you cut UHMWPE to size?
Cutting is available on certain materials at certain depots. Request a quote with your sizes and we'll confirm.
