PTFE rod
PTFE rod is turned into seals, valve seats, bushes and insulators that have to survive chemicals, heat or both. It has the lowest friction of any plastic.
Plastics Hub NZ supplies PTFE rod in virgin and filled grades. Tell us the diameter, length, grade and quantity, and we'll come back with a quote.

Request a quoteWhat is PTFE rod?
PTFE is polytetrafluoroethylene, best known under the brand name Teflon. Virgin PTFE is a soft, waxy white material. Filled grades add glass, carbon or bronze to improve wear and reduce creep.
PTFE cannot be melted and moulded like most plastics, so sheet and rod are made by compression moulding or ram extrusion.

Key properties
Lowest friction
PTFE has one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid, which suits slide bearings and non-stick surfaces.
Chemical resistance
It resists almost all chemicals and solvents.
Wide temperature range
PTFE keeps working from very low to high temperatures, well beyond most plastics. Confirm the grade with us for a stated temperature rating.
Soft and prone to creep
Virgin PTFE is soft and slowly deforms under load. Filled grades reduce this.
Electrical insulation
It is an excellent electrical insulator.
Typical uses
- Chemical-handling parts
Valve seats, linings and pump parts.
- Electrical insulators
Spacers and insulating parts.
Forms, thicknesses and sheet sizes
What PTFE rod commonly comes in. What we can source for you is confirmed on your quote.
- Forms
- Flat sheet and solid round rod.
- Rod
- A range of diameters, commonly in lengths of 1 to 2 metres.
- Grades
- Virgin white PTFE, plus glass, carbon and bronze filled grades.
How it compares
PTFE beats acetal and nylon on friction, chemicals and heat, but it is softer, more expensive and slowly creeps under load. For low-friction parts that must hold their shape at normal temperatures, acetal is usually the practical choice.
How to order
- Send us an enquiry through the quote form or email trade@plasticshub.co.nz.
- Tell us the rod diameter and length, virgin or filled grade, and quantity, and the town or city it is going to.
- We'll come back with a quote, including delivery.
Need it cut? Cutting is available on certain materials at certain depots. Request a quote with your sizes and we'll confirm.
PTFE rod questions
- What is filled PTFE?
- PTFE with glass, carbon or bronze added. Fillers improve wear and reduce creep under load, at the cost of some chemical resistance or electrical insulation.
- Can you cut PTFE to size?
- Cutting is available on certain materials at certain depots. Request a quote with your sizes and we'll confirm.
