PETG sheet

PETG is a clear sheet that sits between acrylic and polycarbonate. It is tougher than acrylic, cheaper than polycarbonate, and thin sheet can be bent cold without cracking.

Plastics Hub NZ supplies PETG sheet for displays, point-of-sale, screens and thermoforming.

What is PETG?

PETG is polyethylene terephthalate glycol, a clear copolyester. It is closely related to the plastic used in drink bottles, modified so it stays clear and tough as sheet.

It is mostly used as thinner sheet, where its toughness and ease of forming matter more than surface hardness.

Key properties

  • Clear and tough

PETG is clear and much more impact resistant than acrylic.

  • Bends cold

Thin sheet can be bent cold along a line without cracking, which suits simple display folds.

  • Easy to form

It thermoforms at relatively low temperatures without pre-drying.

  • Softer surface

PETG scratches more easily than acrylic, so it suits displays that are handled rather than closely inspected.

  • Indoor sheet

Standard PETG is mainly for indoor use. For outdoor work, confirm the grade with us.

Typical uses

  • Display cases and point-of-sale

Clear, tough sheet for retail displays.

  • Protective screens

    Lightweight clear screens and covers.

  • Thermoformed trays and covers

    Vacuum formed parts and packaging.

  • Machine and equipment covers

Clear covers that will be handled.

Forms, thicknesses and sheet sizes

What PETG commonly comes in. What we can source for you is confirmed on your quote.

Form
Flat sheet.
Common thicknesses
Thin sheet from about 0.5mm to 6mm, with 1mm to 3mm the most used.
Common sheet sizes
Full sheets are commonly 2440 x 1220mm.
Common colours
Mainly clear, with some tinted and coloured grades.

How it compares

Choose PETG over acrylic when the sheet must take knocks or be bent cold, and acrylic when clarity and scratch resistance matter more. Polycarbonate is tougher still and handles more heat.

PETG questions

Is PETG better than acrylic?
It is tougher and bends without cracking, so it suits displays that are handled and thin formed parts. Acrylic is clearer, harder on the surface and better for display work that is closely inspected.
Can PETG be bent?
Thin PETG sheet can be bent cold along a line, and it thermoforms easily with heat. Thicker sheet is heat bent.
Is PETG food safe?
Food-contact grades of PETG are made. Confirm the grade with us if your job needs one.
Can you cut PETG to size?
Cutting is available on certain materials at certain depots. Request a quote with your sizes and we'll confirm.
