HDPE sheet
HDPE sheet is the tough, low-cost all-rounder: it shrugs off water, most chemicals and hard knocks, and it cleans easily. It is the sheet behind chopping boards, tank linings and wash-down areas.
Plastics Hub NZ supplies HDPE sheet in standard, food-prep and marine grades, including the marine board often called Seaboard. Tell us the thickness, colour, grade, sheet size and quantity, and we'll come back with a quote.

Request a quoteWhat is HDPE sheet?
HDPE is a thermoplastic with a waxy, slightly slippery surface. It does not absorb water, does not rot and resists a wide range of chemicals, and it can be cut, drilled, routed and welded with ordinary tools and techniques.
Marine-grade HDPE board is HDPE made for outdoor use, with UV stabilisation and a textured finish. It is sold as part of our HDPE range rather than as a separate material.

Key properties
Tough and impact resistant
HDPE flexes rather than shattering and keeps its toughness in the cold.
Chemical and moisture resistant
It resists water, many acids, alkalis and cleaning chemicals, and does not rot or corrode.
Easy to clean
The smooth, non-absorbent surface wipes down easily, which is why it is common in food areas. Food-contact grades exist; confirm the grade with us if yours needs one.
Easy to work
HDPE cuts, drills and routs cleanly and can be plastic welded. It is very hard to glue, so joints are usually welded or fixed mechanically.
Moves with temperature
HDPE expands and contracts more than wood or metal, so long panels need slotted fixing holes.
Typical uses
- Cutting and chopping boards
Thick white or coloured sheet for food prep.
- Marine fit-out
Marine-grade board for hatches, shelving and outdoor joinery.
- Tank and bin linings
Chemical- and moisture-resistant lining sheet.
- Agricultural and wash-down areas
Wall cladding, troughs and guards that are hosed down.
- Wear and slide surfaces
Light-duty wear strips and slides. For heavy wear, see UHMWPE.
Forms, thicknesses and sheet sizes
What HDPE sheet commonly comes in. What we can source for you is confirmed on your quote.
- Forms
- Flat sheet and solid round rod. Marine-grade HDPE comes as sheet.
- Common thicknesses
- Sheet from about 3mm to 50mm and beyond, with 6mm to 25mm among the most used. Marine board is commonly 12mm to 19mm.
- Common sheet sizes
- Sheets are commonly 2440 x 1220mm and 3000 x 1500mm, depending on thickness.
- Common colours
- Natural, white, black, and colours such as blue, green and yellow for colour-coded boards and marine work.
How it compares
HDPE and UHMWPE are both polyethylene. UHMWPE wears far better and slides more easily, and costs more; HDPE is the cheaper all-rounder. Polypropylene is a little stiffer and handles more heat, which suits tanks and chemical work.
How to order

Need it cut? Cutting is available on certain materials at certain depots. Request a quote with your sizes and we'll confirm.
HDPE sheet questions
- Is HDPE food safe?
- HDPE is widely used for chopping boards and food-processing areas, and food-contact grades are made. Not every sheet is a food-contact grade, so confirm the grade with us if your job needs one.
- What is Seaboard?
- Seaboard is a name commonly used for marine-grade HDPE board: HDPE with UV stabilisation and a textured finish for boats and outdoor joinery. We supply it as part of our HDPE range.
- Can you cut HDPE to size?
- Cutting is available on certain materials at certain depots. Request a quote with your sizes and we'll confirm.
