HDPE sheet for cutting boards
HDPE (high-density polyethylene) is the standard plastic for cutting boards in commercial kitchens, butchers and food processing. It is kind to knife edges, does not absorb liquids and is easy to wash.
Plastics Hub NZ supplies the sheet to food businesses, kitchen fitters and makers. We do not make cutting boards.

Food contact
For food use, choose a grade sold as food-contact compliant and ask us to confirm it for your application before you order.
Colours
Coloured boards let a kitchen keep raw meat, fish, vegetables and cooked food apart. White and natural suit general use.
Thickness
Thicker sheet stays flat, resists warping in a dishwasher and can be resurfaced when scored. Thin sheet suits flexible mats.
Care
Wash with hot soapy water and sanitise as your food-safety plan requires. Retire or resurface a board once deep knife scores hold food residue.
Questions
- Is HDPE better than wood for cutting boards?
- In commercial kitchens, yes: HDPE does not absorb liquids, tolerates sanitisers and can go through a commercial dishwasher. Wood needs more care to keep hygienic.
- Can I cut HDPE sheet into boards myself?
- Yes. HDPE cuts with a fine-toothed saw, jigsaw or router, and the edges can be rounded with a router or file. It cannot be glued, so boards are cut from one piece.
